Present day Burgess Marine is the near 60 year evolution of our former business entity, Burgess Welding & Engineering. Founded by Thomas Burgess in 1958, the business focused on civil and marine engineering services and ship repair activities carried out in the local Port of Dover. Much has changed in those sixty years, but to this day, our commitment to delivering engineering excellence has not, and our core business activities remain much the same as they did so very long ago. Tom's original ethos of a fair days' pay for a fair days work remains at the very heart of what we do; we care, we work hard, and we put our customer first.
Today we are a multidiscipline marine engineering services provider operating in the commercial marine, defence and Superyacht sectors of the ever growing UK and international maritime industry. The last decade has seen a significant increase in the scale of our operations, with such growth including geographical expansion from one trading location to ten and annual turnover rising from £2m to £37m. We are the UK's largest independent ship repairer and a premier provider of marine engineering services.
From the North Sea coast of Suffolk south through the English channel to Lands' End, we have a number of ship repair and refit facilities ideally located to support the UK's largest ports, naval bases and busy shipping lanes. Furthermore, the surrounding seas are no barrier to our global support projection. From small scale engineering assistance via the supply of skilled labour, to fully project managed, resourced and delivered refits in third party overseas shipyards, we are the international partner of choice for many ship operators, owners and managers.
We strive to offer our customers a total service solution for all their marine engineering challenges; the nature of the industry within which we operate means our technical teams are available on a planned or emergency basis 24hrs a day, 365 days a year.
We are the ship repair and refit experts, we are marine engineers, we are Burgess Marine.
At all levels of our business we bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to the marine industry. Our senior leadership is made up of marine professionals, engineers, former seafarers and other professionals from varying industrial backgrounds that collectively provide the support, guidance and direction which allows our people to flourish and customers to thrive.
Throughout Burgess Marine you will find a ͛can do͛ attitude rarely seen in industry, from the apprentices through to our board of directors we͛re here to help, we care.
We're committed to conducting our business in accordance with best industrial practise with regards to health and safety, the environment and quality control, hence we maintain third party certification to internationally recognised management system standards.
Our ethical responsibilities and conduct are at the forefront of our decision making and we place great value on all stakeholder relations including the people we employ and the communities within which we operate.
We've partnered with some other like-minded organisations to enhance our service offering and create mutually beneficial trading relations.
Also, because of both our engineering expertise and global support projection, we work directly on behalf of a number of original equipment manufacturers providing support services as formally appointed service agents.
Transparency and fairness is important to us, that's why we clearly publish our terms of business, so that all parties with which we engage are aware of our standard contractual terms from the outset.

We can of course tailor our terms to suit specific contractual requirements, or like we do with many of our customers, enter into a mutually beneficial long term trading agreement with you.
We're ethical too; we do the right thing at the right time. No grey areas. Many incumbents within the sector don͛t - and the fact that we do is one of the reasons we've grown. It's genuinely important to our management team that relationships stem very many years. Trust is key. Respect is key. As a business we want to care for you and your assets, not only for today but well into the future.
